چکیده

The electrophysiological brain activities are nonlinear in nature as measured by Electroencephalography (EEG). There are coherent activities in brain not only seen during explicit tasks but also during rest. This article aims to employ most robust nonlinear dynamics Time Frequency representation (TFR) techniques such as wavelet phase coherence to investigate brain activity in different frequency bands at temporal and spatial scale dynamics in form of topographic maps in resting state networks. The TFR has the advantages to study the combined effect of time and frequency domains simultaneously. The wavelet coherence computed in this way exhibit high precision to detect the phase coherence in different frequency intervals to analyze highly complex non-autonomous and non-stationary EEG signals. The spatiotemporal dynamics of resting state networks are investigated by computing coherence. We have investigated the Wavelet based Phase coherence of oscillations of eye closed and eye open signals during resting states. The wavelet coherence is computed for selected 19 electrodes according to 10-20 system from 129 channel EEG signals. The significance was obtained using Wilcoxon Signed Rank test and pairwise wavelet coherence was computed for each possible combination. The Wavelet Phase Coherence using Wavelet Transform gives significantly high results (P<0.05) in EC and EO signals during resting states in frequency interval 0.5-50 Hz overall as well as in the band intervals such as delta (05-4 Hz), theta (4-7 Hz), alpha (7-13 Hz), beta (13-22 Hz) and gamma (22-50 Hz). By computing the spatial wavelet phase coherence, we observed significant pathways including sagittal factor (anterior-posterior interhemispheric) and lateral factor (perpendicular to anterior-posterior axis). The lateral factor differences have less affect than the sagittal factor. Each band was involved in different activities in some way, however alpha band showed distinct anteriorposterior activity when the eye-closed coherence was higher than the eye open coherence.

EEG Coherence During Resting State Over Frontal Regions in Paranormal Beliefs

Introduction: Paranormal beliefs are defined as believing in extrasensory perception, precognition, witchcraft, and telekinesis, magical thinking, psychokinesis, superstitions. Previous studies corroborate that executive brain functions underpin paranormal beliefs. To test causal hypotheses, neurophysiological studies of brain activity are required. Method: A sample of 20 students (10 females,...

EEG default mode network in the human brain: Spectral regional field powers

Eyes-closed (EC) and eyes-open (EO) are essential behaviors in mammalians, including man. At resting EC-EO state, brain activity in the default mode devoid of task-demand has recently been established in fMRI. However, the corresponding comprehensive electrophysiological conditions are little known even though EEG has been recorded in humans for nearly 80 years. In this study, we examined the s...

The variability of EEG functional connectivity of young ADHD subjects in different resting states.

OBJECTIVE To assess ADHD from global measures of EEG functional connectivity and their temporal variability in different resting states. METHODS EEGs from sixteen cortical regions were recorded at rest during eyes-closed (EC) and eyes-open (EO) in 10 male combined-type ADHD subjects and 12 healthy male controls. The mean global connectivity (CM) of each region and its temporal variability (CV...

EEG from a single-channel dry-sensor recording device.

While a laboratory setting and research-grade electroencephalogram (EEG) equipment allow control of variables and high-quality multiple-channel EEG recording, there are situations and populations for which this is not suitable. The present studies examined the validity of a new method of single-channel EEG measurement that is portable and uses dry-sensor technology. In study 1, EEG was recorded...

EEG-MEG Integration Enhances the Characterization of Functional and Effective Connectivity in the Resting State Network

At the sensor level many aspects, such as spectral power, functional and effective connectivity as well as relative-power-ratio ratio (RPR) and spatial resolution have been comprehensively investigated through both electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG). Despite this, differences between both modalities have not yet been systematically studied by direct comparison. It rem...
